Religious Gather at Westminster Cathedral
On Wednesday 2nd February the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord, Archbishop Vincent Nichols invited all Religious to join with him at a Solemn Mass which was celebrated in Westminster Cathedral. Sister Raymunda, Aquinata, Amy, Sheila, Lucy and Alphonsus were among over three hundred religious who attended the celebration. It was a great experience to be a part of this gathering. Fr. John Farrell and Fr. Michael Dunne our Dominican brethren were also present at the celebration.
Archbishop Nicholls reminded us that “This feast helps us to understand the deep bond between Mary and her Son, both in life and indeed in death. In many ways, this feast helps us to understand our relationship with the Lord. Just as in this feast of the presentation of the Lord by Mary in the Temple, so too it is the day of your own formal presentation of yourselves to the Lord, for many of you at profession. We can draw from this feast an impetus to renew our own work, which is that of presenting the Lord in our world today.” He also spoke of the Role and Ministry of Religious in the Church today; he particularly noted the need for courage and tenderness in that Ministry. He also mentioned in particular those Religious who are celebrating, Silver, Golden, Diamond, and Platinum Jubilees this year, one of whom was Sister Sheila.
After the celebration all were invited to a reception in Westminster Cathedral Hall. Archbishop Nichols joined the religious at the reception and took the opportunity to speak with Religious especially the Jubilarians with whom he had some photographs taken.
